Icancanu’s Privacy Policy


1. Scope


Children and Minors under 18. If you are under age 18, please do not attempt to register for icancanu or provide any personal information about yourself to us. If we learn that we have collected personal information from a child or minor under the age of 18, we will delete that information as quickly as possible. If you believe that we might have any information from a child or minor under age 18, please contact us.


Other web sites. Icancanu may contain links to other web sites that are outside of our control and not covered by our Privacy Policy. If you access other sites using the links provided, the operators of these sites may collect information from you to be used in accordance with their privacy policy, which may differ from ours.


2. How we collect your Information


Directly from you:


Information About Yourself. When you sign up for icancanu you provide us with your name and email address. During the registration process we give you the opportunity to connect with your friends. You will also have the option of adding a picture of yourself. Once you register you can provide other information about yourself by connecting with, for example, your current city, hometown, family, relationships, networks, activities, interests, and places.


Content. One of the primary reasons people will use icancanu is to share content with others. Examples include when you post a favour, comment on a favour, 'like' a favour, upload a photo or video, share a link, create a group, or send someone a message. If you do not want us to store metadata associated with the content you share on icancanu (such as photos), please remove the metadata before uploading the content. What is metadata? Metadata is information that is embedded within certain types of content. For example, if you were to upload an image or video using an smart phone the GPS co-ordinates might be attached to the media content.


Favour Information. We may retain details of favour transactions that you make on icancanu. If you provide a favour to someone they will be able to see your details as if they were a friend unless you specifically hide these details.


Friend Information. It is the intention of icancanu to offer contact importer tools to help you upload your friends' addresses so that you can find your friends on icancanu, and invite your contacts that do not have in icancanu accounts to join. If you do no want to us to store this information please contact us. If you give us your password to retrieve those contacts, we will not store your password after you have uploaded your contacts' information.


From what you do on our site:


Site Usage. We may collect information about how you use the icancanu website, such as when you add connections (including joining a group or adding a friend), create a gallery, or indicate you "like'" a favour. In some cases we collect information about how you provide information or content to us. For example, if you share a video, in addition to storing the actual content you uploaded, we might log the fact that you shared it.


Access Device and Browser Information. When you access icancanu from a computer, mobile phone, or other device, we may collect information from that device about your browser type, location, and IP address, as well as the pages you visit.


Cookie Information. We use "cookies" (small text files saved to the hard drive of your computer, mobile phone, or other device) to make icancanu easier to use, to make our advertising better, and to protect both you and icancanu. For example, we use them to store your login ID (but never your password) to make it easier for you to login whenever you come back to icancanu. We also use them to confirm that you are logged into icancanu, and to know when you are interacting with icancanu’s applications and website, . You can remove or block cookies using the settings in your browser, but in some cases this may restrict your use of icancanu.


Information from third parties:


Information from other websites. We may enter into relationships with advertising partners and other websites in which they share information with us: For example, we may ask advertisers to tell us how our users responded to the advertisements we showed them (and for comparison purposes, how other users who didn't see the advertisements acted on their site). This data sharing, commonly known as "conversion tracking," helps us to measure our advertising effectiveness and improve the quality of the advertisements you see. We may receive information about whether or not you've seen or interacted with certain advertisements on other sites in order to measure the effectiveness of those advertisements. If in any of these cases we receive data that we do not already have, we will "anonymize" it within 180 days, meaning we will stop associating the information with any particular user. If we enter into relationships with third parties, we will only use the information in ways we explain in the "How We Use Your Information" section below.


3. Sharing Information on icancanu.


This section explains how your privacy settings work, and how your information is shared on icancanu. You should always consider your privacy settings before sharing information on icancanu. You can change your privacy settings at any time on your ‘myicancanu’ profile page. Icancanu gives you total control to set your privacy settings for your: (i) Personal Information; (ii) Each and every favour; (iii) Gallery Content; (iv) Each and every Group; (v) Each and every friend.


Mandatory Information. We require that you provide us with your name, email address and password when you register with icancanu. You cannot delete this required information but you can hide everything, except your name.


Name and Profile Picture. Icancanu is designed to make it easy for you to find and connect with others. For this reason, your name, profile picture and location do not have privacy settings. If you are uncomfortable with sharing your profile picture or location you should not add this information.


Visibility Definitions.

  1. icancanu friends: Connections that you have made by inviting or accepting invitations on icancanu.
  2. icancanu friends with defined rating: Each time a user receives positive feedback for doing a favour his/ her rating increases. When submitting a favour request you may select friends who have a specific minimum rating.
  3. friends of friends: This includes your connections and your friends’ connections.
  4. defined groups: You can choose specific groups to post favour requests to such as the “Stockwell Dinner Party” group.
  5. Everyone: A post to ‘everyone’ will be visible to all icancanu users and potentially everyone on the internet.
  6. Friends with the same location: These are connected friends which share the same “hometown” location as you.

Personal Information. Your Personal Information Privacy settings control who can see your Personal Information such as your email address, date of birth and gender. Remember that none of this information is required except for your email address, and you do not have to share your email address with anyone.


Favours. Icancanu allows you to control the visibility of each and every favour post The visibility can be set to: (i) icancanu friends; (ii) icancanu friends with defined rating; (iii) friends of friends; (iv) defined groups; (v) everyone. When a favour request is posted using the ‘quick favour’ input field, the default visibility for the favour request is icancanu friends. The visibility can, however, be amended by selecting the ‘edit’ button in the pop up once the quick favour has been submitted. Furthermore the visibility of the favour can be altered at any time.


Galleries. Icancanu allows you to control the visibility of each photo of video that you post. The visibility can be set to (i) icancanu friends; (ii) icancanu friends with defined rating; (iii) friends of friends; (iv) defined groups; (v) everyone. The default visibility setting when uploading media content is icancanu friends.


Groups. Icancanu allows you to control the visibility of each group that you create. The visibility can be set to: (i) icancanu friends; (ii) icancanu friends with defined rating; (iii) friends of friends; (iv) defined groups; (v) everyone. The visibility of each group is set when each group has been created.


Friends. Icancanu allows you to control the visibility of each and every connection that you make. The visibility can be set to: (i) icancanu friends; (ii) icancanu friends with defined rating; (iii) friends of friends; (iv) defined groups; (v) everyone. The default visibility of new connections is icancanu friends.


Default Privacy Setting. The default privacy setting for all your information is as described above. We recommend that you review and change these settings to suit your preferences.


Other.Here are some other important things to remember: Some of the content you share and the actions you take will show up within your friends' newsfeeds and other pages they visit. Even after you remove information from your profile or delete your account, copies of that information may remain viewable elsewhere to the extent that it has been shared with others, was distributed pursuant to your privacy settings, was copied or stored by other users. You understand that information might be reshared or copied by others. Certain types of communications that you send to other users cannot be removed, such as messages to other users. When you comment on another user's favour, that information will be subject to the other user's privacy settings. If you use an external source to publish information to icancanu (such as a mobile application or Facebook Connect), you should check the privacy setting for that post, as it is set by that external source.


'Everyone" Information. Information set to "everyone" is publicly available information, just like your name, picture profile, and connections. Such information may, for example, be accessed by everyone on the Internet (including people not logged into icancanu), be indexed by third party search engines, and be imported, exported, distributed, and redistributed by us and others without privacy limitations. Such information may also be associated to you, including your name and profile picture, even outside icancanu, such as on public search engines and when you visit other sites on the internet.


4. Information You Share With Third Parties.


Connecting with Applications or Website. When you connect with Applications such as Facebook, you will be able to control the information from your icancanu newsfeed that is visible on your Facebook wall. For example you may wish to communicate to your Facebook friends that: David has commented on Tony’s favour, “Can you take care of my cat?” on icancanu. ‘ You should always review the policies of third party applications and websites to make sure that you are comfortable with the ways in which they use information you share with them. We do not guarantee that they will follow our rules. If you find an application or website that violates our rules, you should report the violation to us and we will take action as necessary.


Exporting Information. You (and those you make your information available to) may use tools like RSS feeds, mobile phone address book applications, or copy and paste functions, to capture, export (and in some cases, import) information from icancanu, including your information and information about you. For example, if you share your phone number with your friends, they may use third party applications to sync that information with the address book on their mobile phone.


Advertisements. Icancanu may approach advertisers in the future who may present advertisements on icancanu that use technological methods to measure the effectiveness of their ads and to personalise advertising content. Icancanu will give you the option to opt-out of the placement of cookies by these advertisers. You may also use your browser cookie settings to limit or prevent the placement of cookies by advertising networks.


5. How We Use Your Information


We use the information we collect from you to provide a safe, efficient, and customised experience. Here are some of the details on how we do that:


To manage the service. We use the information we collect to provide our services and features to you, to measure and improve those services and features, and to provide you with customer support. We use the information to prevent potentially illegal activities, and to enforce our Terms of Use. We also use a variety of technological systems to detect and address anomalous activity and screen content to prevent abuse such as spam. These efforts may on occasion result in a temporary or permanent suspension or termination of some functions for some users.


To contact you. We may contact you with service-related announcements from time to time. You may opt out of all communications except essential updates on your account notifications page. We may include content you see on icancanu in the emails we send to you.


Downloadable Software. Certain downloadable software applications that we may offer, such as browser toolbars [ and photo uploaders ], transmit data to us. We may not make a formal disclosure if we believe our collection of and use of the information is the obvious purpose of the application, such as the fact that we receive photos when you use our uploader. If we believe it is not obvious why we are collecting or using such information, we will make a disclosure to you the first time you provide the information to us so that you can decide whether you want to use the feature.


6. How We Share Information


Icancanu is about helping your friends and people in your communities while providing you with the privacy settings that you can use to restrict other users from accessing some of your information. We share your information with third parties only when we believe that sharing is permitted by you or when we are legally required to do so.


When you invite a friend to join. When you ask us to invite a friend to join icancanu, we will send your friend a message on your behalf, using your name.


To give search engines access to publicly available information. We generally limit search engines' access to our site. We may allow them to access information set to the "everyone" setting (along with your name and profile picture) and your profile information that is visible to everyone. You can change the visibility of all of your personal information using the privacy settings explained above.


To help improve or promote our service. Sometimes we share aggregated information with third parties to help improve or promote our service. But we only do so in such a way that no individual user can be identified or linked to any specific action or information.


To provide you with services. We may provide information to service providers that help us bring you the services we offer. For example, we may use third parties to help host our website, send out email updates about icancanu, remove repetitive information from our user lists, [or provide search results or links (including sponsored links). These service providers may have access to your personal information for use for a limited time, but when this occurs we implement reasonable contractual technical protections to limit their use of that information to helping us provide the service.
